Privacy Policy

Rooted: Bible Memory ("Rooted", "we", "our", or "us") is an iOS app for reading, saving, memorizing, and sharing Bible passages. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app stores, what information we collect, and how that information is used.

Summary

Rooted does not require an account or sign-in.

We do not include third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or a custom backend that uploads your app data to us.

Most app data stays on your device. This includes your saved passages, collections, memorization progress, reading progress, and app preferences.

The app includes an optional usage analytics setting. If you turn it on, Rooted stores anonymous, aggregated usage data on your device. That analytics data is not transmitted off your device.

Information stored on your device

To provide the app's features, Rooted stores the following information locally on your device:

  • Saved passages and collections you create
  • Passage text and references for verses you save
  • Memorization progress, including review dates, stage, and practice state
  • Reading progress, such as the book, chapter, verse, and translation you last viewed
  • App preferences, such as selected Bible translation, selected theme, and whether onboarding has been completed

This information is used only to operate the app's core features and preserve your progress and settings between sessions.

The current release does not enable iCloud or CloudKit syncing for this app data.

Optional usage analytics

Rooted includes an optional "Enable usage analytics" setting in the Menu screen. This setting is off by default.

If you choose to enable it, the app stores anonymous, aggregated usage information locally on your device. This can include:

  • Session counts and total time spent in the app
  • Time spent on app tabs and screens
  • Counts of certain in-app actions, such as opening chapters, saving passages, starting practice, or completing onboarding
  • Limited anonymous context attached to those actions, such as the current tab, translation ID, source screen, or counts like number of selected verses

This analytics data is used to help evaluate feature usage and app behavior. The analytics store remains on your device and is not uploaded to our servers.

Analytics records are retained locally for up to approximately 12 months unless they are removed earlier by deleting the app.

Information we don't collect through the app

We've deliberately kept Rooted small. The app does not ask you to create an account, and it does not collect your name, phone number, mailing address, precise location, contacts, photos, microphone input, camera input, health data, or payment information.

We do not use advertising identifiers, cross-app tracking, or data brokers, and we do not upload your saved verses, memorization progress, or reading history to our own servers.

Photo library permission

Rooted may request permission to add to your photo library if you choose to save a verse image or garden image created by the app through the iOS share sheet.

The app requests add-only photo library access for that purpose. It does not request permission to read your existing photo library.

Sharing and third-party destinations

Rooted can generate verse and garden share images on your device and present Apple's native iOS share sheet.

If you choose to share an image with another app, service, or website, that sharing happens based on the destination you select. Any information you send to that destination is governed by that third party's own terms and privacy policy, not this Privacy Policy.

Links to other services

Rooted may include links such as:

  • An App Store rating link
  • A support email link

If you follow those links, Apple or your email provider may process information according to their own privacy policies.

If you email us for support, we will receive the email address, message content, and any other information you choose to include in that email. We use that information only to respond to your request and provide support.

Apple services

Although Rooted does not include a third-party crash or analytics SDK, Apple may provide us with aggregated App Store, app performance, diagnostics, retention, or crash information through Apple's own platform tools. Any such processing by Apple is governed by Apple's own privacy terms and policies.

Data retention and your choices

Because Rooted does not maintain user accounts or a user-content backend, your app content generally remains on your device unless you choose to share it.

You can control your data by:

  • Deleting passages or collections inside the app
  • Turning optional usage analytics off in the Menu screen
  • Removing the app from your device

If you share content outside the app, copies may remain with the destination you selected.

Security

Rooted relies on iOS and standard Apple storage mechanisms to keep app data on your device. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

Rooted does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.

If a parent or guardian believes a child has sent us personal information directly, such as through a support email, please contact us and we will address the request.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page.
